Best of Occupational Therapy (05/13/2020)

This week: digital eye strain, taking full advantage of telehealth, student mental health, and the pivotal role of occupational therapy in post COVID-19 rehab.

Curious What “The BOOT” is?

Here’s the Deal: This is where I bring you the best of the best from the field of OT.

I’ll consume all sorts of wonderful occupational therapy content. This includes podcast episodes, blog posts, videos, journal articles, social media posts, you name it.  Then, I’ll pick my favorites for you to enjoy.

Moreover, if you want to get all of this amazing OT content sent right to your inbox, make sure to sign up here.

Is there anything that you think should be included in the BOOT? Email me and let me know: sarah@ot4lyfe.com.

More importantly, let’s find out who gets “The BOOT” this week…

Eyes Hurting From Increased Screen Time?

We are all feeling it these days. OTs with Apps walks us through the causes and offers some strategies to assist in decreasing digital eye strain.

Taking Full Advantage of Teletherapy

Brandon Seigel from Wellness Works Management Partners released a great episode talking all about unlocking the potential of teletherapy for our clients and for our businesses.

Mental Health in OT Students

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month and Allie from Patches of OT released a podcast episode discussing just this. In the episode, she opens up about her experiences with failure during OT school and the impact it had on her mental health.

We’ve all known that occupational therapy is essential during the pandemic. And finally the stories are starting to come out about how occupational therapy practitioners are improving the lives of people recovering from COVID-19 hospitalization and ventilation.

Some Fun Things Happening

I had quite a few fun things happen this past week.

To start, my episode with Miranda Rennie from OT Uncorked came out. It’s all about cultural fluidity and my experiences working in early intervention in Los Angeles, CA.

Secondly, this past Monday Taelor from Taelormade OT took over my instagram account talking all things trauma. Check out the highlights on my IG profile to see what you missed. Also, stay tuned for the IG Live on May 15, 2020 at 4:00 PST.

I also posted a blog post which was inspired by a chat I had with a new grad OT. She reached out asking about the job market and it sparked me to think outside the box when it comes to the OT job search.

In addition, my interview for the OT Entrepreneur Summit is out as of today. If you signed up for the OTE Summit and watched it, reach out and let me know what you think. It was a blast chatting about podcasting and going behind the scenes of my show.

What Are Your Fave OT Resources?

This month I want to know your favorite occupational therapy resources. Where do you go for OT information, research articles, treatment ideas, or inspiration?

Chime in the discussion and leave a voicemail for me. I will be including your answers in my next monthly recap podcast episode. And… one lucky commenter will win some OT 4 Lyfe swag for submitting their response.

Do you have questions or comments or just wanna say “Hi!”? Reach out to me! I would love to hear from you:

Cheers!

Because for us, OT is more than just a job!
