This week: more on teletherapy, a new OT YouTube channel, in-room treatment ideas, role-emerging fieldwork, and Earth Day celebrations.
Curious What “The BOOT” is?
Here’s the Deal: This is where I bring you the best of the best from the field of OT.
I’ll consume all sorts of wonderful occupational therapy related material, from podcast episodes, to blog posts, YouTube videos, journal articles, social media posts, you name it. Then I’ll pick a few of my favorites and feature them here for you to enjoy.
Want to get all of this amazing OT content sent right to your inbox? Make sure you sign up.
Is there anything that you think should be included in the BOOT? Email me at and let me know: sarah@ot4lyfe.com.
Ok, now let’s find out who gets “The BOOT” this week…

A Little More on Teletherapy
Last week, I asked for your help in what you wanted see more of on the BOOT and I had a few people reach out wanting more resources about teletherapy. There is a lot of information out there about this, but here are a few that stood out to me:
- AOTA has an extensive list of teletherapy resources.
- Speaking of AOTA, I attended a webinar last week and they mentioned a book about telehealth and OT.
- There’s also a whole journal on Telerehabilitation.
- And a complete guide on teletherapy from Growing Hands On Kids
A New Practitioner on the Youtube Block
I’m so excited to introduce you to an amazing OT practitioner who has just started a YouTube channel. Debra Battistella and I connected at an AOTA conference years ago and I so proud of her for putting herself out there and sharing her wealth of knowledge about OT through her video channel.
Role-Emerging Fieldwork Placements
Here’s an article from the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists that takes a look into the students’ perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and future directions of role-emerging fieldwork placements.
Stuck In Rut Doing Therapy in Your Clients’ Rooms?
Mandy Chamberlain from Seniors Flourish has you covered with some awesome in-room treatment ideas that are occupation-based and meaningful to your clients that have to stay in their rooms during this time.
Earth Day Celebrations
Today is Earth Day and Gotta Be OT came up with a list of activities to do with your clients to celebrate.
Giving Thanks
First off, I wanted to thank each of you that reached out to me and let me know how I can best provide help to you during this time. I had some great questions and will be continuing to answer them as I get more information.
Also, I know that many of us are going through a difficult time right now and I wanted to say that A) it’s ok to not be ok. We will get through this and I know that we will come back stronger than ever, but that our body and minds are being bombarded with so much information right now that it is a lot to take in. And B) I think that we as occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely poised to accommodate to what is going on and will be able to have a huge impact on our communities moving forward. I am optimistic about our future and think that a lot of good will unfold from all this chaos in the end.
I also released a new podcast episode this week in which I chat with Dave Merlo, an occupational therapy assistant, professor at an OTA program, and member of the AOTA board of directors about he built success throughout his career by pursuing non-traditional roles as an OTA.
Since I loved getting feedback from you, this week I want to know what questions you have in regards to occupational therapy right now? Feel free to comment below or reach out to me via email: sarah@ot4lyfe.com, Instagram @ot.4.lyfe, Facebook @ot4lyfe, and Twitter @ot4lyfe.
Hope you are having a great week.
