K is for Keepsake

These days I have found myself trying to become more minimalistic in my way of living. I have been donating a bunch of stuff and pairing down to simply the essentials.

But there are a few things that I will forever keep with me that are huge keepsakes from my journey as an OT.

This compass was actually given to me by my fieldwork educator on my second fieldwork placement with the words “Discover Your Own OT Path” attached in a note. It is something that I have thought about and reflected on often during my experience as an OT.

I reflect on my time as a student, the transition into practitioner, how much I have learned and done over my tens years as a clinician, as well as what will happen in the future. Even though I don’t know exactly where life will take me in the years to come, I will always have my experience to guide me and the support from my friends and family.

I have even adopted the compass theme for my own students to continue on this tradition.
