This is one of my favorite parts about being an occupational therapist.
I absolutely love taking fieldwork students and mentoring them through their clinical rotations. I get to expose them to working in the homes in early intervention, share my knowledge and clinical experience, and provide a look into what private practice looks like.
But it is not only my students who are learning, I also get to learn from them. I get a fresh set of eyes during the treatments and evaluations, I am able to stay connected to what is going on in academia, and the best part is that I get to be a part of my intern’s OT journey and watch them go from student to practitioner.
I absolutely love it when my student tells me that when they start practicing, they want to take fieldwork students because of this experience. Being a fieldwork educator is truly an honor!
